How can somatic body oriented methods help me?
As well as cognitive thinking, our bodies use feelings, sensations and movement to let our deepest needs become known to us and the outer world. Our bodies send messages via feelings and sensations to make requests, tell stories, protest, get angry, dissociate, create defensive and offensive protective strategies, feel grief and ask for help.
Our bodies can also hide or cut us off from feelings and sensations when they are perceived as being dangerous or too overwhelming for us which can create a dissociative, surreal or flat experience of the world and a variety chronic pain syndromes. Dissociation can also present as numbness, depression, being in your head or having inability to be present or ADHD.
The body oriented methods I use are very effective in safely helping clients connect with their bodies and get to the root of challenging internal problems. Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, Hakomi and Feldenkrais methods create transformation by working directly with your body-mind physiology as well as cognitive process.
Body-Mind methods supports, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, unresolved childhood issues, grief, trauma, sexual abuse, auto-immune disorders, chronic pain, stress management, body image issues and creative blocks.
Many people find that body-mind methods can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the challenges of daily life. It can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn.

How are the somatic body based methods you use different from traditional talk therapies, analysis, CBT, DBT etc.?
The somatic body based methods and the tools I use create transformation in clients by safely letting them get in touch directly with emotions and protective-defensive patterns, dissociative patterns and subconscious strategies that are stored deep in the brain and body and subconscious.
Talk oriented cognitive therapies are very helpful for many people but they usually don't give you direct or deep enough access to the origin of the challenges you are working with. This is especially true for PTSD, complex chronic pain syndromes and auto immune and dissociative disorders.

The speed of progress depends on a number of factors including:
- How well you use the healing process and put into practice what you learn.
- How early and severe your patterning, wounding or trauma is.
- The nature of the problem itself (simple versus complicated).
- How long the problem has been with you (newly developed versus chronic and longstanding)
- The type of challenges you are working with including: prenatal, early or later life or generational trauma, attachment issues, sexual abuse, autoimmune disorder, personal injury or accident, predatory attack, cultural or religious challenges, addiction or combination of these factors.
- How much work you put into solving the problem outside of appointments. I believe it is essential when working with my clients that we work together to understand your goals and to track those goals so we can accurately assess whether we are achieving those goals or not.
- Are you on medication?
- Do you have self help practices that help you regulate your body?
- Do you have friends, community or family support?

I feel I may have trauma, been sexually abused, have emotional of physical challenges but I don't have memories or know the specific incidents that caused them.
Using body based tracking methods you do not need to have memories about the inciting incidents that created the wounding.
I show clients the tools they need to observe how their body responds and organizes it self from past wounds, fears and beliefs.
